Top Five Go To Campy/Horror Movies

As it's October 31st, it seems the perfect time to post the list of my Go To Movies when it comes to All Hallow's Eve.

#5 Jack Brooks, Monster Slayer
Not a movie for all (I don't even think my partner enjoys sitting through this one) but there's something about the tongue-in-cheek tone, the over-the-top characters, and the incredibly disgusting monster at the end that always makes me smile.

#4 Trick 'R Treat
Michael Dougherty's homage to horror anthologies is jam-packed with a great cast, fun twists, plus that pumpkin kid is creepy as all get out.

#3 Slither
Nathan Fillion doing what Nathan Fillion does best (or at least as close to Captain Malcolm Reynolds as we're likely to see) in a movie that's got some great characters and one-liners and another really disgusting monster.

TIE FOR FIRST AND SECOND PLACE:

#1/2 Tucker & Dale vs. Evil

"Oh hidy ho officer, we've had a doozy of a day. There we were minding our own business, just doing chores around the house, when kids started killing themselves all over my property."

And, really, after a line like that, what more needs to be said?  Unless, of course, it's this:

"I should have known if a guy like me talked to a girl like you, somebody would end up dead."

 #1/2 Cabin in the Woods
No big surprise to anyone who knows me that a movie written and produced by Joss Whedon would  top my list of Go To Movies for Halloween. The dual storylines, the harbinger, the make out scene with the moose, the bong/coffee mug/cudgel, the freakin' merman. This is one cleverly-crafted and executed ride from beginning to end. Plus it's got George Kirk* shirtless.

*I know, I know, to many of you Chris Hemsworth is Thor or the Huntsman or any other number of various and sundry leading role types, but to me he'll always be George Kirk from those few bright and shiny moments at the beginning of Star Trek.
